tea tree oil oily skinI haven’t actually used tea tree oil on my face before so I’m looking for a bit of help here. There are loads of sources that say that tea tree oil can help with oily skin and work as a treatment to acne.

Here is the logic behind the theory:
Tea tree oil is antimicrobial, it eliminates bacteria and fungus on contact. It is also said to dissolve the oil on our skin. This is how it can help with both acne and oily skin.

There have been a few studies that suggest that tea tree oil does indeed reduce the oiliness of our skin. Most of the studies are focused on acne. One study was performed by dermatologists at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown, Australia. This study compared the effects of Tea Tree Oil with benzoyl peroxide and found that both helped reduce pimples. The benefit was that Tee Tree Oil caused less side effects.

This doesn’t mean that tee tree oil has no side effects. It’s recommended that people with sensitive skin don’t use it could cause an allergic reaction and a rash.

So it all sounds like tea tree oil can actually help with oily skin and acne, and I will add it to the list of options I need to try out. Hopefully someone who has already had experience with Tee Tree Oil will read this and can help us out. If you have found that Tee Tree Oil has helped with your oily skin, please let us know in the comment section below!

I have very oily skin and use Boots’ tea tree oil & witchhazel foaming facewash and moisturiser – it works very well for me and is remarkably inexpensive for such an effective product.
